Is It Finally Time to Turn in Your iPhone for a Galaxy S9?

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S9 which features an improved camera system with better low-light performance and Qualcomm's new chip with ultra-fast speed. The qualities are enticing, but is it enough to make users switch from Apple to Samsung?

1. Low-Light Camera Performance

While you probably can't tell the difference between the iPhone X and Galaxy S9 photo quality in broad daylight, the real test is in low-light. When you snap a picture with the Galaxy S9, the phone is actually capturing 12 images simultaneously so that it could combine all the exposures together to create a single shot. This single picture will "include all the detail you want, but with as little grain and noise as possible" (Bloomberg).

2. Horsepower and Storage

While Apple's A11 Bionic chip runs up to 2.4GHz, the Galaxy S9 comes with Qualcomm's state-of-the-art Snapdragon 845, capable of running speeds up to 2.8GHz. It's no question that both phones are fast and will most likely be able to handle whatever you use them for. As for storage, the S9 comes with 64GB built in and supports Micro SD cards that provide additional capacity up to 400GB. On the other hand, Apple does not let you expand internal storage with SD memory, but provides up to 256GB on the iPhone X. If that isn't enough, customers will need to use cloud-based storage such as iCloud or Dropbox.

3. Price

The iPhone X starts at $999, and the S9 ranges from $720 to $930 depending on your carrier. These prices are highest both companies have ever come out with for the two phones.

Comparing the two phones, there are many similarities. For this reason, die-hard Apple fans will most likely stick with Apple, and Samsung users will stick with Samsung. There's not a game-changing feature that will attract customers to the S9, so until that comes around, I'm perfectly fine with my iPhone.
