Volkswagen Makes Aggressive Push to Overtake Tesla

Volkswagen AG has vowed to de-throne Tesla as the go-to brand for electric vehicles, with a rollout of battery and hybrid models over the next few years, and at least 16 electric-vehicle plants by 2025.

The company aims to sell three million electric vehicles per year by 2025, which is a pretty far-reaching goal considering the fact that they have not even built out their infrastructure yet. However, they do have extensive knowledge and resources when it comes to production (something that Tesla is missing).

Volkswagen Chief Executive Matthias Muller has mentioned that his company, which owns VW, Audi, Porsche, Skoda, Bentley and Lamborghini, is going to launch a new EV virtually every month starting in 2019.
This is how we intend to offer the largest fleet of electric vehicles in the world, across all brands and regions, in just a few years (Matthias Muller).
However, we're still not sure how Volkswagen is going to train their staff, dealerships, and service departments in regards to the electric vehicles. It's known across the automobile industry that car dealers are less inclinced to push electric vehicles because they don't require as much service as normal cars. The service departments would also have to be re-trained in order to provide maintenance for EV's, as the systems are completely different from those of a regular engine.

Volkswagen's goal is to launch 50 new electric models and 30 new hybrids by 2025. Seems strenuous, but let's see if they can actually overtake Tesla.
